Tra Que is a charming little village on the edge of Hoi An, the village is named after the sweet scented vegetables that spice up the every day meals of the Pho Hoi people. Here a new spirit for traditional Hoi An dishes like Cao Lau, Quang noodles, enjoy cooking class served by host with the local ‘Tam Huu’ spring roll which were primarily made from Tra Que vegetables and cake with meat (Banh xeo) has been enlivened.
Tra Que Village is a small but essential village situated about 15 minutes out from the Hoi An Center. It provides organic vegetables for all of Hoi An town and surrounding areas! What makes Tra Que Village special is how the vegetables are grown – this village uses no fertilizer or chemicals, however a particular algae that is only present in this area. You are fascinated by watching the farming procedures of local farmers, including: raking the ground, sowing,… picking vegetables and lots of other activities that are rarely seen in modern daily life. You’ll be able to join one of the local farmers and get a really feel of what it’s like to work the land. Get your hands muddy and the photograph opportunities are endless. As well you’ll listen to people talking about organic farming techniques and try their hand at actual farming.
Have eaten Vietnamese spring rolls or summer rolls? Rice paper is what it used to wrap the rolls. You will have an opportunity to see how to make rice paper here: rice grinding, boiling, stretching and drying.
On the way back to town, you’ll enjoy Pho Hoi An version. Pho Hoi An is a different version with Pho in Hanoi. The chewy noodles are dried from the fresh ones and it’s dipped in hot water. The hot broth is made by simmering beef bones. It is added with some ground peanut to enhance the taste. You’ll be able to see everything in the bowl.
